Patent filing shows off possible Samsung 'Gear' smart watch design

Gear smart watch expected to debut alongside Note III

Images from a patent application filed earlier this year appears to show the design for Samsung's forthcoming Gear wearable computing device. Korean site MovePlayer uncovered the application on Saturday, and the images shown in the filing may or may not be the final design for the device. It is expected that Samsung will unveil the device in the coming months.

Very little about the functionality of the device can be gleaned from the drawings in the patent application. Samsung fan site SamMobile does note that the model number shown off in the filing, SM-V700, matches one previously associated with wearable computers from Samsung.

The device does appear to feature a flexible display, as well as a section devoted to controlling its operation. Samsung in the past has been working on folding displays, though previous reports have pegged the technology as not yet ready for mass production.

Samsung's smart watch device is expected to debut later this year at IFA Berlin 2013. It could do so under the Gear brand, but there is the possibility that the South Korean company will call device Galaxy Altius. The world will likely get its first peek at the device during Samsung's keynote presentation on September 4.
