Promotion is in addition to $200 off retail price of Retina MBPs
Best Buy has launched a brief promotion on top of an ongoing promotion, making for a great opportunity for some buyers. In addition to discounting current Retina MacBook Pros by $200 off list price, the company will also give buyers of those MacBooks a free, third-generation Apple TV. In addition, verifiable students at recognized educational institutions can get another $100 discount on the Retina MacBook Pros, totalling a $300 discount along with the free Apple TV. The offer makes the pricing the lowest currently available when the value of the $99 Apple TV is included.
As examples of the pricing, which is offered both online and in retail stores, a base 13-inch Retina MBP with 8GB of RAM and 128GB of storage, costs $1,300 ($1,200 for students). On the other end, the 15-inch Retina MacBook Pro with 16GB of RAM and 512GB of storage would cost $2,600 ($2,500 for students). The free Apple TV unit is included in the cart automatically when ordering online.
Shoppers in a handful of US states that have no state sales tax -- or those in states with a summer tax holiday going on during the promotion -- can save another 5-10 percent on the overall value of the purchase. Current 10 states that normally charge sales tax are offering a "back to school" tax holiday, mostly in the first week of August. Best Buy's promotion with the Apple TV is running until August 3, but the $200 off list deal may continue beyond that.
