Google updates Cloud Print for Windows, removes Chrome requirement

updated 04:20 pm EDT, Mon July 22, 2013

New service allows printer sharing with simple link

Google has released its Cloud Print service for Windows, enabling the connection of Cloud Print-compatible applications to any printer. The Google Cloud Printer Driver for Windows has extracted the need for Chrome, and makes it possible to print to any accessible cloud printer from Windows as a Windows service, rather than a Chrome plug-in.

The new service can allow anybody with a link to the printer, similar to a shared file link, to print to the device. The services does include user limitations, such as whitelists of users able to print, and page limits per day.

Supplementing the Cloud Print for Windows service, the Cloud Print app for Android devices has been updates as well. The update allows printing from nearly any Android app to the new service.
