Android 4.3 for Google Nexus 4 leaks online via device backup

updated 06:45 am EDT, Thu July 18, 2013

Mobile OS claimed supplied on purchased Nexus 4

Android 4.3 may have made an appearance on the Nexus 4, ahead of its release. A screenshot and a backup of the mobile operating system have been posted to the XDA developer forum, after Jeff Williams on Google+ was asked to prove his claim of receiving the Nexus 4 with it preinstalled instead of Android 4.2.

The backup, confirmed by Android Police as real and functional, shows it as build number JWR66N. Though the backup is functional, it is marginally incomplete due to missing parts for the radio and bootloader, but Williams hopes to add them in the next few days. Early examination of the backup seems to reveal it will still be called Jelly Bean rather than the expected Key Lime Pie, just as found in an earlier leak, and it also has a new version of the Play Store.

Yesterday, Google sent out invitations to members of the media, asking them to attend a breakfast with Android head Sundar Pichai on July 24th. It is likely that a new version of Android will be revealed at the event, if not released, along with the possibility of new Nexus devices.
