Google sends invitations for breakfast with Android head to media

Event hosted by Sundar Pichai could be Android 4.3 launch

Google will be holding an event next week, with the strong possibility of something Android-related being revealed. Invitations sent out to members of the press offer breakfast with Sundar Pichai, the current head of Chrome and Android at the search company, but aside from naming the senior vice president, there are no other hints as to what Google will present on July 24th.

The invite, received by Engadget, does state that there will be a livestream of proceedings, suggesting that it could be a major launch of some description, Since it is being headed by Pichai, it is likely to be the launch of the long-rumored Android 4.3, which recently appeared in test screenshots running on a Samsung Galaxy S4, according to reports. It is believed that the impending mobile operating system update will be an "optimized OS," in that it will work with older, lower-specification Android devices. The breakfast could also be the launch of new Nexus devices.

Pichai took over as the head of Android at Google after previous lead Andy Rubin stepped down from the position. After the release of the iOS 7 beta, Pichai expressed a keenness to try out the Apple operating system, an unusual move considering his current occupation in Android.
