LG to expand Optimus G Pro availability to 40 more countries in Q3

updated 01:03 pm EDT, Tue July 16, 2013

Parts of Europe, Latin America, Middle East, CIS to get LTE smartphone

LG will be launching its Optimus G Pro smartphone in 40 new countries in the next quarter. The flagship LTE smartphone, having reached 1 million sales in LG's native South Korea and gone on sale in the United States, will be made available in parts of Europe, Latin America, the Middle East, and the Commonwealth of Independent States in the next few months.

The Optimus G Pro uses a quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 600 processor clocked at 1.7GHz, which is supported by 2GB of RAM and 32GB of storage. On the front is a 5.5-inch 1080p IPS display with a 2.1-megapixel camera, while a 13-megapixel shooter resides on the back, with both cameras able to record video simultaneously. LTE, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and an infrared transmitter are also included.

While the smartphone will be appearing in a large number of countries in a short space of time, Engadget reports that it will not be appearing in the United Kingdom, likely due to the relatively-undeveloped LTE phone networks in the country. LG has also teased a replacement to the Optimus G range, said to be the LG G2, which could be unveiled at a launch event in New York on August 7th, which may potentially slow sales of the Optimus G Pro despite the wider availability.

The LG Optimus G Pro is on sale in the US on AT&T for $100 upfront on a two-year contract, or $550 off-contract. It should go on sale in the new markets for a similar price.
