JVC launches 42-inch, 47-inch BlackSapphire SL HDTVs for summer sale

updated 09:55 pm EDT, Fri July 12, 2013

BlackSapphire SL screens include passive 3D, XinemaSound 3D audio

JVC has revealed a pair of smart TVs it will be releasing later this summer. The BlackSapphire SL range in 47-inch and 42-inch versions are edge-lit LED HDTVs with an "adaptive backlight," and have a design that not only uses a thin bezel with a slim frame, but is also supplied perched upon a half-pipe television stand.

Using a 120Hz processing engine and the XinemaSound 3D virtual surround sound system, the BlackSapphire SL screens build upon the cheaper Sapphire series by adding passive 3D video playback, with CNET reporting that four pairs of glasses are included with the device. The Smart TV functions connect over its built-in Wi-Fi connection, with apps including Vudu, Netflix, Slingbox and Pandora, while the remote control features a QWERTY keyboard and a Netflix button. Three HDMI ports, a USB port, component and composite video cables and a 3.5mm "music port" jack provide connectivity with other devices.

The 42-inch SL42B-C will cost $799 at launch, while the larger 47-inch SL47B-C will be priced at $899. Larger models will apparently be available in the future.
