HTC One in line for upgraded internals before the end of 2013
The HTC One is set to get a hardware update before the end of 2013, according to a Pocket-lint source. Although specifics about what the refresh will entail aren't yet known, it is likely to follow a similar path to its 2012 flagship the HTC One X that was updated mid-cycle with the One X+. The updated One X+ included an upgraded processor, larger battery and improved front-facing camera.
The HTC One currently ships with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 600 quad-core processor clocked at 1.7GHz making it likely that a revamped model will move to the newer Snapdragon 800 quad-core chip that can be clocked up to 2.3GHz. It currently ships with a 2300mAh battery, so there is potentially room for HTC to integrate a battery with a slightly higher capacity. While it is unlikely to change the front camera it currently uses, it is possible that it could upgrade the UltraPixel camera.
The same source also indicated that the 2014 HTC flagship smartphone is codenamed 'M8,' which also follows on from the M7 codename given to the HTC One ahead of its launch. No details have yet emerged about that model, however it is almost certainly going to continue with the aluminium design approach first seen in the One. Yesterday, a senior HTC exec revealed that the company would be releasing more models using the fabrication lessons it learnt with the introduction of the One.
