Mil-spec tablet boasts A9 processor, 32GB storage

Ruggedized technology purveyor Xplore Technologies Corp today announced that it has introduced the RangerX -- the company's first fully-rugged Android tablet, which blends versatility with Xplore's proven rugged performance. The new lightweight tablet with both IP65 and MIL-STD 810G ratings is aimed at field service industries such as utilities, energy, warehousing, logistics, transportation, military and public safety.

The 2.2-pound tablet is driven by a dual-core ARM Cortex A9 processor, with 32GB of storage, and runs Android 4.0.4 "Ice Cream Sandwich" -- several revisions behind the current version. The display is an IPS multitouch screen, running at 1366 x 768. RFID and NFC capabilities are standard in the RangerX.

The RangerX is the only rugged Android tablet to provide an optional module with Gigabit Ethernet and HDMI-In connections, enhancing usability for satellite, cable, broadband and telecommunication providers. A common access card (CAC) reader is available for the FIPS 140-2 compliant tablet.

A rugged RangerX tablet retails for $1,349. The CAC reader and HDMI module are available at additional charge.
