HTC refreshes 8X with upgraded 8XT, launching on Sprint for $99

The new HTC 8XT will be launching on Sprint's network on July 19 for $99 on a two-year deal. The new smartphone is an updated version of the HTC 8X, which was originally one of the Windows Phone launch devices. The new model brings with it several key enhancements, not least of which is support for a microSD card, addressing complaints that the 16GB ceiling on the original 8X too limiting.

The new HTC 8XT switches to a Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 CPU clocked at 1.4GHz matched with 1GB of RAM. In adding the support for a 64GB microSD card, HTC has dropped internal storage capacity from 16GB to 8GB. However, it has added the popular dual-stereo front-facing BoomSound speakers found on the HTC One as well as HD voice calling. In addition to a GPS and GLONASS support, a digital compass has also been added to the mix.

As before, the display continues at 4.3-inches but is apparently better for viewing in daylight situations and off-center viewing. The camera has also been enhanced with a larger f2.0 aperture and better low-light photo taking capabilities. HTC has also added a multi-shot burst function to the 8XT as well. Beats Audio sound-enhancement and an 1800mAh battery carry over from the superseded 8X.
