HP exec claims company planning re-entry into mobile phone market

updated 10:08 pm EDT, Mon July 1, 2013

New device would be 'differentiated experience' over Android, iOS

In an interview, HP's Senior Director of Consumer PCs and Tablets in the Asia-Pacific Region Yam Su Yin told The Indian Express that the company will at some point reinsert itself into the mobile device market. When directly asked about a future handset from the company, the director claimed that the company would eventually have a phone because "it would be silly if we say no. HP has to be in the game."

Adding to the interview, Yin told the paper that "being late, you have to create a different set of propositions. There are still things that can be done. It's not late. When HP has a smartphone, it will give a differentiated experience."

HP's previous mobile OS acquired by the company when it absorbed Palm met its end in 2011. With the death of the OS, came the cancellation of the TouchPad and webOS phones. HP has since rejoined the tablet market, but as of yet, has no mobile phone product available.
