First OS X 10.8.5 beta seeds to developers

updated 05:02 pm EDT, Wed June 19, 2013

Maintains focus on bugfixes

Apple has begun seeding the first beta of OS X 10.8.5 to developers. The initial release is listed as build 12F9, and like v10.8.4 concentrates on bugfixes instead of new features. Developers are asked to test graphics, Wi-Fi, PDF viewing, and wake-from-sleep functions.

Once finished, v10.8.5 may be the last major update for Mountain Lion. Apple is currently at work on OS X Mavericks, which is due to ship sometime in the fall. Once the company releases a new operating system, it typically halts all work on the previous one, barring critical patches.
