Water, dust-resistant smartphone uses 5-inch 1080p display, 13MP EXMOR RS camera

The Sony Xperia Z will be going on sale in the United States on T-Mobile "in the coming weeks," according to a statement from the carrier. The water-resistant smartphone, an exclusive to the phone network, will be made available over the summer online and in stores, with a limited-edition purple version being offered at the same time as the black finish model.

Aside from the protection from water and dust, tempered glass, and anti-shatter film on the front and back, the Xperia Z has a 5-inch 1080p "Reality Display" with mobile Bravia Engine 2, and is powered by a quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Pro processor running at 1.5GHz with 2GB of RAM. On the back is a 13-megapixel Exmor RS camera with HDR video and a front-facing 2-megapixel Emor R version, while 16GB of expandable storage and LTE connectivity are also included.

While T-Mobile has announced its exclusivity of the device and provided a contact form for more release details on its website, an exact release date and pricing details are not currently available.
