Google expands Chromebook availability to Walmart, Staples

updated 04:26 pm EDT, Mon June 17, 2013

Rollout of new venues to take place over the summer

An official Google blog post has noted the expansion of Chromebook netbook sales to additional venues in the US and in Europe. Starting today, Walmart will be selling the Acer Chromebook, and starting this weekend, Staples will be carrying an assortment of makes and models from three different manufacturers.

The Staples expansion includes all 1,500 US stores and include Chromebook units from Acer, HP, and Samsung. In the coming months, select Office Depot, Office Max, Fry's, and Tiger Direct stores will sell the computers.

Overseas, the Chromebooks are available in 116 Tesco stores in the UK. Mediamarket and Saturn carry the devices in the Netherlands. JB Hi-Fi and Harvey Norman stores have started selling the Google-powered computers in Australia. The blog notes that Google is "working hard to bring Chromebooks to even more countries later this year."
