Sony teases Xperia Z Ultra phablet, stylus in Paris event invitation

updated 08:06 am EDT, Thu June 13, 2013

Thin profile, stylus main focus of invitation design

Sony could be unveiling the Xperia Z Ultra phablet on the fourth of July, suggesting the Xperia Z follow-up will be a direct competitor to the Samsung Galaxy Note II. Invitations to an event being held in Paris, France, hints at the phone's design by showing the side with what appears to be a hole for stylus storage, along with pointing out the hand-written part of the invite using a stylus.

The invitations, received by french blogs such as Frandroid, can be translated as saying "Sony Mobile reserves a big surprise for you" and to "put a note in your agenda," something that Xperia Blog suggests is a hint towards its rumored 6.4-inch display. It is expected to have a 1080p screen using "Triluminos with X-Reality for Mobile," use a quad-core Snapdragon 800 processor running at 2.2GHz with 2GB of RAM, 16GB of storage, and an 8-megapixel rear camera.

The Xperia Z Ultra, if it is indeed what will be revealed at the event, will be the latest in a quick succession of smartphones from the company. In recent months, Sony has made the waterproof Xperia ZR, the entry-level Xperia M, and Xperia ZL official, along with the Xperia Tablet Z.
