Samsung chief interview mentions camera reveal at June 20th event

Samsung may be revealing a new camera in the near future, this time joining its existing NX range of shooters instead of being a direct replacement of the Galaxy Camera. A photograph of a camera allegedly called the Galaxy NX has surfaced, along with a confirmation from Samsung chief JK Shin that it will be showing off a new mirrorless camera at its launch event in London on June 20th.

The photograph, found by Techtastic, is accompanied by suggestions that the camera will have a 20.3-megapixel sensor, and move away from the compact camera styling of the original Galaxy Camera to now allow for interchangeable lenses. Based on the information said by Shin to the Korea Times, it will be running on Android, though that report alludes to it being called the Galaxy Camera 2 instead.

The new details arrive the day after the manufacturer unveiled the Galaxy S4 Zoom, which combined the smartphone with a 10x optical zoom and a 16-megapixel sensor. Samsung may end up marketing the Galaxy S4 Zoom as the equivalent of a compact camera to its customers, leaving the Galaxy NX and its potential range of existing NX-mount lenses as an option for the more-expensive prosumer market.
