Amazon launches Storyteller tool to automate storyboard creation

updated 03:16 pm EDT, Fri June 7, 2013

Storyteller scans scripts, creates storyboard from stock assets

Amazon has created a free tool to help writers and filmmakers to quickly create storyboards. Amazon Storyteller will scan a script uploaded to Amazon Studios, and will create a storyboard based off the characters, locations, and props, along with appropriate dialog, without the need to hire an artist to create the storyboard on the writer's behalf.

The storyboard will use items from its expansive catalog of images to make the scenes, but it will still allow for drawings to be uploaded manually, for alternative props or characters to be used, and to change positions and facial expressions of characters. Completed storyboards can be published on Amazon Studios for others to view and provide feedback.

The Storyteller tool would likely be useful to filmmakers looking to get their production picked up by Amazon Studios itself. The retailer recently announced it would be putting some shows from its pilot-feedback scheme into full production, including Washington DC satire Alpha House and Silicon Valley sitcom Betas.
