Sony intros entry level Xperia M, 4-inch display, dual-core CPU

Sony brings its design flair to the entry level with Xperia M

Sony has introduced the latest in its ever-expanding line up of Xperia Android-based smartphones. The new Xperia M is targeted at the mid to lower end of the smartphone market, but still offers solid performance and specs for users who prefer a more compact device for comfortable one-handed use. However, counting against it is its lack of 4G LTE connectivity, although it is equipped with an HSPA+ 3G radio and also comes in a dual-SIM variant.

The Xperia M centers on a 4-inch display with a 854x480 resolution (FWVGA), while it is powered by the respectable dual-core Snapdragon S4 processor clocked at 1GHz and matched with 1GB of RAM. While taking some of its styling cues from more expensive Xperia smartphones like the Xperia Z, the Xperia M also utilizes other Sony tech including ClearAudio+, xLOUD and Sony's Stamina-mode to extend the battery life of its 1750mAh unit, while it also incorporates a 5-megapixel Exmor sensor. Connectivity includes NFC and Bluetooth 4.0 and ships with Android 4.1 out of the box.

The Xperia M will be rolling out globally during July and will be joined by its dual-SIM variant, the Xperia M Dual with pricing varying according to market.
