ComScore: Apple's iOS gaining ground on Android in US marketshare

updated 07:27 pm EDT, Tue June 4, 2013

Gains at expense of Microsoft, Blackberry

Market analysts comScore MobiLens has issued its quarterly report on mobile phone usage derived from data surveys. The latest report continues to demonstrate that both Apple and Samsung are increasing usage marketshare mostly from smaller Android makers, including HTC, Motorola and LG, all of which lost ground over the past four months. As a result, Google's Android platform lost share in the US once again in the latest averages, alongside BlackBerry and Microsoft.

Google still holds the lead with 52 percent of the smartphone market with its Android operating system, down 0.3 percent since the last quarter despite several high-profile device releases in the examined time period. Apple's 39.2 percent share has climbed 1.4 percent in a period where no new hardware has been released.

When examined by hardware platform, Apple's 39.2 percent holds the lead. Samsung held second with 22 percent, up 0.6 percentage points, followed by HTC with 8.9 percent, Motorola with 8.3 percent and LG with 6.7 percent, all slightly down on the quarter.
