S4 Mini shrinks screen, battery, storage capacity

Samsung has revealed the Galaxy S4 Mini before its June 20th event, following various rumors and leaks about its existence. The smaller version of its namesake seems on paper to be a mid-range smartphone, complete with its 4.3-inch qHD Super AMOLED screen and unnamed dual-core 1.7GHz processor supported by 1.5GB of RAM.

Running on Android 4.2.2, the Galaxy S4 Mini has 8GB of storage, 5GB of which is open to the user and is expandable by microSD, and houses a rear 8-megapixel camera and a front-facing 1.9MP version. Wi-Fi, GPS, Glonass, Bluetooth 4.0, NFC, and an infrared LED are also included, alongside the option of having a version with LTE connectivity on top of the normal quad-band HSPA+ connection. Software features, such as Group Play, S Translator, Samsung Hub, ChatON, and S Voice also make the transition from the flagship original, though the battery has been shrunk from 2,600mAh to 1,900mAh.

While a price and release date has not been disclosed, the Galaxy S4 Mini will be available in a choice of White Frost or Black Mist casings, and will receive a more formal launch at the London event next month.
