Apple: WWDC keynote coming Monday, June 10

updated 02:50 pm EDT, Thu May 23, 2013

Preview of OS X 10.9, iOS 7, possible MacBook refresh

Apple has formally announced that the Worldwide Developers Conference will begin with the traditional keynote address, set for the first day of the conference: Monday, June 10. Unusually this year, the company has pre-announced that the convention (and presumably the keynote) will focus on the forthcoming OS X 10.9 and iOS 7. Though not included in the announcement, CEO Tim Cook is expected to headline the presentation.

The program was expected, but was only confirmed on Thursday morning, AllThingsD reports. The conference will be held once again at the Moscone Center in San Francisco, CA. Apple, naturally, did not reveal any specifics of the keynote. The conference will be held June 10-14 with more than 1,000 Apple engineers in attendance. Tickets sold out almost instantly when they were made available on April 25, but all the technical sessions (as well as the keynote) should be available for registered developers to stream online.

In addition to the first look at the next major OS upgrades from Apple, speculation has it that at least one member of the MacBook family -- the MacBook Air -- is likely to have a refreshed model announced at the conference. The availability of Intel's low-power "Haswell" chip has sparked the rumor that the company may refresh the entire MacBook line with the new processors.

Reinforcing the rumor is news that Amazon is sold out of the current MacBook Air models with 64GB of storage and a 1.7GHz Intel Core i5, though small numbers of used and refurbished models are still available. Other models are also in short supply.
