updated 07:38 am EDT, Mon May 20, 2013

Sony Xperia Tablet Z now available globally for pre-order

Sony has announced the belated global availability of its Xperia Tablet Z. First unveiled in January, and finally made available for pre-order in the US in late April, international customers can now also place pre-orders for the device. Shipments of what Sony is calling the 'world's thinnest' 10-inch tablet are expected in early June.

The Xperia Tablet Z is powered by Qualcomm's Snapdragon S4 Pro quad-core chip clocked at 1.5GHz, while it centers on a 10.1-inch display with a resolution of 1920x1200 pixels. It has 2GB of system RAM and storage in 16GB or 32GB variants, with support for microSD expansion. On the rear is an 8.1-megapixel camera with Exmor R sensor. The battery packs in 6,000mAh, while wireless connectivity includes Bluetooth 4.0, Wi-Fi and NFC. A 4G LTE model is also available.

The Tablet Z is also one of the few 10-inch tablets to weigh under 500grams at 495 grams, while it is also dust-proof and can survive being submerged in water for up to 30 minutes at a depth of 3 feet. The Xperia Tablet Z is available in white or black.
