Google launches All Access streaming music service, goes live in US

updated 01:14 pm EDT, Wed May 15, 2013

Paid-for service provides track recommendations, instant playlists

Google has announced its music service at its Google I/O developer conference. As leaked yesterday in a report, Google Play Music All Access is the search giant's take on Spotify and other similar music streaming services, with users able to stream from the large catalog of tracks already available to download from the Google Play Music store.

Users will have access to a recommendation engine called Explore, with individual radio stations able to be created from individual tracks, and the option to block individual songs or artists from appearing on the playlist. Listen Now will offer users new tracks to listen to, based on their streaming history and tracks stored in the locker service.

All Access will be open to users for $9.99 per month in the US from today, with international markets to follow. A 30-day free trial will be available, and early adopters will get their monthly subscriptions discounted to $7.99 if they do so before the end of June.

Ah, back in the day, you could buy a radio for like $15 and listen to songs 24/7/365 for no additional cost. You know. "The good old days." ;)
