Google Maps preview page shows maps customized by searches

Google has updated its Google Play app store, just before the first day of the company's developer event, Google I/O. A new sign-up page for Google Maps also briefly appeared online before an expected reveal at the conference, which gave more information about the search giant's plans for its navigational product.

The revised Play Store, now at version 4.1.6, adds more-colorful content selection buttons, according to Android Police. The Wishlist UI has updated from a previous list view to a card style, and various parts of the menu have received other minor tweaks. The changes build upon the main Play Store redesign that went live last month, but should really be considered a refinement than a visual overhaul.

The sign-up page for Google Maps, discovered by Droid-Life, mentions a number of things not covered in the earlier leak. The new Maps is said to draw "a tailored map for every search and click you make," with items believed to be useful to the user highlighted for future reference. The search box, along with other navigational controls appear on top of the full-page maps, which also includes imagery from Google Earth. The option to search through flights and to compare different transportation methods on the same map screen are also being incorporated into the new product, though there is no mention on the page if these same features will be applied to the mobile version.

Other items touted to be revealed at Google I/O include a subscription-based music streaming service, new Nexus devices, its unified messaging system, and more detailed plans for the Google Glass wearable display.
