IQ X, IQXA smartphones from i-Mobile boast 8MP and 18MP cameras

Front-facing camera has high-resolution, BSI sensor with autofocus

A smartphone manufacturer in Thailand is making two mobile devices that use two high-resolution camera sensors, rather than one high and one low. Images published on Facebook by i-mobile show the IQ X and IQ XA, which boast an 18-megapixel rear camera and an 8-megapixel front-facing version, both of which have BSI sensors and autofocus.

While the suggested specifications are significantly better than many phones currently on the market, Engadget believes they could be exaggerations, as the i-mobile 902 was sold as having an 8-megapixel camera, but it turned out to be just 5-megapixels but with the resulting image scaled up. Both phones use a MediaTek quadcore processor running at 1.2GHz supported by 1GB of RAM, use 4.7-inch 720p screens, 4GB of storage expandable by microSD, and can use two SIM cards. While they both use GSM 900MHz and 1800MHz radios, the IQ X is able to support HSPA+ on the 850 and 2100MHz ranges, with the IQ XA doing the same for the 900 and 2100MHz bands.

Unlikely to be sold outside of Thailand, the IQ X and IQ XA will go on sale for 8,990 baht ($300) unlocked.
