SoftBank CEO promotes 4G expertise ahead of Sprint shareholder vote

Knowledge of TD-LTE spectrum to help Sprint in rollout

SoftBank's CEO is continuing to talk-up his company's $20.1 billion offer to buy out Sprint, by claiming SoftBank's experience with 4G will help the US carrier. Network enhancements, such as SoftBank's single frequency network technology for reducing interference, will help Sprint in the long run alongside other benefits, according to CEO Masayoshi Son.

The comments made at a company event, picked up by The Verge, include commitments to high speeds and clearer signals. SoftBank is said by Son to be the best choice to help Sprint use the TD-LTE spectrum the carrier is expected to receive from Clearwire, as it is the same band that SoftBank already uses. The SoftBank 4G service is "the first time in the world that this transmission method has been employed for commercial use, and we're already using it on a large scale."

It is not clear if Son's comments will be enough to sway shareholders towards the SoftBank deal in comparison to Dish Network's $25.5 billion proposal to Sprint. While SoftBank touts its existing knowledge of TD-LTE and synergies, Dish chairman Charlie Ergen previously opted to emphasize the need for "US employees who speak English," as well as pointing out Dish's bigger offer is better as "That's just math."

Sprint shareholders are scheduled to vote at a meeting on June 12th.
