Adobe brings new features to Premiere, After Effects video utilities

updated 02:40 pm EDT, Mon May 6, 2013

Apps rebranded under Creative Cloud brand

Adobe is focused on its Creative Cloud service this week at its Max conference, where the company has introduced updates to its broad range of software. The new offerings include video-focused utilities Premiere Pro CC, After Effects CC, Prelude CC, SpeedGrade CC and Adobe Story Plus, along with the audio-production app Audition CC. Many of the new apps will enable users to sync settings between computers and remotely collaborate on videos without downloading the source materials.

Video editor Premiere Pro is said to focus on "editing finesse," featuring a redesigned timeline and new shortcuts. Users will be able to edit source sequences without nesting, while Adobe Anywhere enables remote collaboration on files stored on a shared server. Other enhancements include Lumetri Deep Color Engine integration and closed captioning.

Effects app After Effects has also been revamped, bringing the promised Cinema 4D integration through a live 3D pipeline. Taking from technology that was developed for Photoshop, a Refine Edge tool helps simplify background removal throughout a clip.

The Creative Cloud software will no longer be available as a direct purchase, requiring users to sign up for Adobe's subscription program, though the earlier CS6 variants will still be available for sale. Individual users can sign up for $50 per month, gaining access to the full suite, while individual programs cost $10 per month.

The new CC apps are expected to be added in June.
