Briefly: Google+ Hangouts remote desktop, Skype update in Windows 8

Google adds remote desktop feature to Google+ Hangouts

Google+ users can now remotely control a desktop in Hangouts, something suggested by the company to help in long-distance technical support. The feature uses the same background tech from Chrome Remote Desktop, according to Google staffer Daniel Caiafa in a Google+ update. When enabled from the Apps section, Hangouts Remote Desktop will ask permission to allow the other user to control the computer, while still allowing both sides to talk and see each other throughout the control session.

Skype video messages added to Windows 8 app

Microsoft has rolled out its video messaging feature to Skype for Windows 8. The feature, already available to users on iOS, Android, Mac, and users of the beta version of the pre-Windows 8 client, allows for videos of up to three minutes in length to be left for other accounts to watch at a later time, in a similar manner to voicemail. A small number of video messages can be sent by each account, but users of Skype Premium will be able to send an unlimited number. Windows Phone remains as the last major platform capable of viewing the messages, but unable to create them.
