Samsung announces seven-inch Galaxy Tab 3 follow-up to tablet line

updated 05:56 am EDT, Mon April 29, 2013

Galaxy Tab 3 boosts processor, storage, may be budget tablet

Samsung has unveiled an update to one of its successful lines of tablets, though it appears to be a mild upgrade rather than a complete product overhaul. The Galaxy Tab 3 houses an upgraded dual-core 1.2GHz processor, up from the 1GHz version used in the Galaxy Tab 2, along with options for 16GB of internal storage with extra microSD expansion.

Running on Android 4.1, the Galaxy Tab 3 has a rear three-megapixel camera with a 1.3-megapixel front-facing version, and a seven-inch TFT display running at a resolution of 1024x600. Standard Wi-Fi connectivity, Wi-Fi Channel Bonding on 2.4GHz and 5GHz, Wi-Fi Direct, Bluetooth 3.0, and USB 2.0 connection support are also included, along with a 4,000mAh battery.

The Wi-Fi version of the Galaxy Tab 3 will go on sale world-wide from May, with a 3G version said to be following in June. No pricing details have been revealed, though its relatively-low resolution display compared to the Google Nexus 7 suggests it may be a fairly cheap prospect.
