XCOM: Enemy Unknown Elite Edition ships for Mac

updated 11:38 am EDT, Thu April 25, 2013

Includes DLC, other extra content

Firaxis, 2K Games, and Feral Interactive have launched a promised Mac port of XCOM: Enemy Unknown in the form of the Elite Edition. The download includes the content of the main game plus a soundtrack, desktop wallpapers, and three DLC add-ons: the Slingshot Pack, the Elite Soldier Pack, and the Second Wave update. The two packs allow for more soldier customization, and add more council missions and the Shaojie Zhang soldier. Second Wave adds a collection of gameplay modifiers.

Players assume control of the game's namesake organization as it tries to fend off an alien invasion. On a strategic level, players must balance training, building, and research demands against budgets and the need to respond to incursions in different countries around the world. The core of the game is its turn-based tactical mode, where players control the actions of individual soldiers.

The Elite Edition costs $50 at the Mac App Store. The game requires a Mac running OS X 10.7.5 or better, along with 4GB of RAM, 256MB of video memory, and 15GB of hard drive space. Certain older video cards aren't supported, or else demand 8GB of RAM to compensate.
