Rumor: Motorola X phone benchmarked, Android 5.0 delays

Benchmark shows 'Google X' device running on Key Lime Pie

The Motorola X phone may have appeared in smartphone benchmarks, if a screenshot is confirmed as true. The image, showing the phone as running Android 5.0.1 comes at the same time as other rumors suggesting that the Key Lime Pie version of the mobile operating system may not make it in time for a reveal at Google I/O.

The screenshot from RBMen is taken from the AnTuTu benchmark, something that is said to be easily manipulated, and puts the validity of the image into question. If it is factual, it appears to demonstrate that the smartphone will have a name-change to "Google X," highlighting Google's ownership in Motorola. Notably, the screenshot also mentions Android 5.0.1 as the operating system being run on the device, giving more credence to earlier comments by executives that it would have the "unadulterated version of Android."

The possible launch of Key Lime Pie at Google I/O is also in doubt, as other rumors place Google as delaying its release by two to four months. Sources of Gadgetronica claim it is being done to provide Android device manufacturers time to update their existing phone offerings to Jelly Bean from earlier versions. Phone producers are still concentrating on providing Jelly Bean updates for users of Ice Cream Sandwich, something they have been working on since the launch by Google last year.
