Microsoft plans Surface RT, Pro sales in more countries

Surface Pro to hit 24 more countries, RT to reach four more

Microsoft is increasing the number of countries where customers can buy the Surface RT and Surface Pro tablets. The Surface Pro will be available in 24 more countries, while the Surface RT will be launching in Malaysia on April 25th, in Mexico by the end of may, and in Korea and Thailand in June. The expansion will see the Surface RT be available in 29 countries, and the Surface Pro in 27 in total.

Currently, the Surface Pro is available in the US, Canada, and China. Before the end of May, a Microsoft blog writes that the Surface Pro will hit Australia, Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Hong Kong, Ireland, Italy, Luxembourg, New Zealand, the Netherlands, Norway, Portugal, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, and the United Kingdom. Customers in Korea, Malaysia, Russia, Singapore, and Thailand will have to wait until June before they can get their hands on the tablet.

While Microsoft is aiming to launch its Surface tablets in more countries, it is still having issues with availability in the US and Canada. Stocks for the 128GB version of the Surface Pro is said by the company to be challenging to keep in stock, something that Microsoft has worked at to improve supply for its Microsoft Stores and most retail partners.

Sales of the Surface RT have been below expectations so far, and while expanding the number of countries will expand the potential customer base, it will likely not help improve the rate of sales as much as Microsoft hopes. The company is planning to try and release a "new suite of small touch devices powered by Windows" at "competitive price points" in the coming months, according to an executive, which if realized, may help improve sales revenues.
