Archos deploys line of contract-free Android smartphones

Three new models available starting at $100 in May

Electronics manufacturer Archos has debuted a line of Google certified smartphones. The Archos 35 Carbon, 50 Platinum, and 53 Platinum are the first in a line of phones by the company, and are expected to be available in Europe by the end of May 2013. All devices have Google certification for access to Google Play, Dual-SIM slots, along with front and back cameras.

Ranging from 3.5-inch to 5.3-inch in size, the first three smartphones to be released in the second quarter will include a range of features, connectivity, CPU speeds, and storage. The Archos 53 Platinum has a 5.3-inch IPS panel running at 960x540, an 8MP rear-mounted camera, and a 1.2GHz quad-core Qualcomm 8225Q processor. The Archos Platinum 5.0 differs only in screen size, but runs at the same resolution. Both the Platinum 50 and 53 run Android 4.1.2 "Jelly Bean"

The entry-level Archos 35 Carbon boasts a Qualcomm 7225A 1GHz processor. The screen is an IPS 3.5-inch screen running at 480x320. Android 4.0 "Ice Cream Sandwich" drives the phone.

The Archos 35 Carbon retails for $100. The Archos 50 Platinum is expected to sell for $220, with the 53 Platinum going for $250. All phones are contract-free and shipped without a SIM.
