Curved screen to eliminate image distortion to viewer

LG has confirmed it will be placing a curved OLED TV on sale by the end of the year. The EA9800 TV, measuring 55 inches and first shown off at CES earlier this year, will be part of the first curved releases, with other larger televisions planned to be shipped at around the same time, though the exact shipping dates are unknown.

"I can't give you an exact time, but I think we will see the first curved TV devices on the market soon," LG Home Electronics Product Communication team manager Hung W.K. Shin told Trusted Reviews, continuing "Consumers will be most strongly immersed with this curve." Vice president of Home Entertainment Thomas Lee advised that the "curved TVs are coming in the second half of this year," and that curved TVs are "another major trend."

The curve is meant to allow for the screen to be equidistant from the viewer's eyes, when viewed from straight ahead, allowing for lessened screen-edge visual distortion, according to an LG blog post. The display also used a WRGB system that added a fourth white sub-pixel to the existing RGB setup a minimalist bezel, 3D, and Smart TV capabilities.
