Sprint promises discount for new customers

Several carriers have announced release dates for Samsung's Galaxy S 4, which will land at T-Mobile on April 24 before arriving at Sprint on April 27. Sprint has chosen $250 as the standard subsidized price for the Android flagship, though a $100 instant credit is offered for new customers who switch from another carrier. Keeping to its new "un-carrier" branding, T-Mobile is advertising $150 as its up-front cost ahead of monthly device payments.

T-Mobile's "Simple Choice" plan starts at $50 per month for unlimited talk, text and data, however data speeds are throttled after 500MB for the basic package. Adding 2GB of high-speed data costs $10 per month, while unlimited data without throttling adds $20 per month. Aside from the $150 down payment, buyers face 24 monthly payments of $20 to completely pay off the phone.

Sprint has kept its traditional service plans, starting at $80 per month for unlimited data and messaging with 450 minutes of talk time. The company will be offering the Galaxy S 4 in either white or black color schemes.

T-Mobile's April 24 ship date is limited to online orders, delaying availability at brick-and-mortar stores until May 1. Sprint is set to begin taking pre-orders tomorrow, while AT&T is already taking pre-orders for April 30 shipping. Verizon is the last of the big carriers to pin down a specific launch date.
