Conflicting reports hint at Facebook Home on iOS, Windows Phone

updated 09:56 am EDT, Tue April 16, 2013

Would likely be different experience from Android phones

Facebook Home or some of its concepts could make their way to iOS and Windows Phone, Bloomberg reports. In an interview with the publication, Facebook product director Adam Mosseri says that negotiations are underway with Apple and Microsoft. "We've shown them what we've built and we're just in an ongoing conversation," he states.

Mosseri says that Home could be a very different entity on iOS. "It may or may not be Home," he explains. "We could also just bring some of the design values to the iOS app. That might be how it ends up. Or we could build just the lockscreen. Maybe then it's not called Home, it's called something else." During Home's Android launch last week, Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg said that "Anything that happens with Apple is going to happen with partnership."

Despite claims directly from Mosseri, a Facebook source reached by the The Next Web insists that the company isn't in talks with Apple or Microsoft, and that there are no plans to bring Home to either iOS or Windows Phone. Porting Home to iOS might prove especially difficult; while Home was prototyped using Apple's Quartz Composer, iOS is designed to be much less customizable than Android, for instance preventing apps from appearing over other apps, or taking over the lockscreen. As a result Apple would likely have to agree to make Home an integral part of iOS, extending Facebook hooks beyond current sharing and single sign-in features.
