Troll Touch now offering touchscreens for latest slim-model iMacs

updated 02:06 am EDT, Fri April 12, 2013

Available for both screen sizes, uses analog resistive overlay

Custom touchscreen manufacturer and licensed Apple service provider Troll Touch has unveiled custom-made touchscreen solutions for the latest model of iMac -- both the 21.5- and 27-inch sizes. The company offers both internal, factory-installed touchscreens and user-installable analog resistive overlay units, paired with a 12-bit USB controller and custom cabling. As a service provider, Troll Touch can also do in-warranty repairs on iMacs with the factory-installed touchscreen without violating the warranty.

The company has been making touchscreens for Macs since 1987, first becoming widely known for its ability to add a touchscreen to the original iBook, and has since provided touchscreen options for iMacs and other models. Delivery on the new user-installable version is slated to begin next week, but pre-ordering has pushed back expected ship times to 4-6 weeks.

Pricing on the customer-installable, USB-powered "slipcover" model has not yet been announced, but the factory-installed option costs $995 for the 21.5-inch model, and $1,295 for the 27-inch iMac. Pricing for the 2011 iMac models in the same sizes starts at $600.
