Autodesk launches Homestyler home decoration app

updated 03:11 pm EDT, Thu April 11, 2013

Promotes real products, designers

Autodesk has release a new iPad app, Homestyler. The app is meant suggest home decoration ideas using 3D models. After taking a photo of a room, people can insert 3D models of real furniture, rugs, mirrors, and other objects. Users can also hang light fixtures, or change the colors of walls.

A Design Stream feeds a series of images, how-to guides, and other articles. Also present in the app are a number of social features. Beyond sharing via email and Facebook, a Design Gallery lets people "heart" and comment on designs. The app also promotes the portfolios of professional home designers, and lets people connect with them for questions about projects.

The app is a free download, and requires iOS 5.1 or later.

    WTF?

" Also present in the app are a number of social features"
What's with every developer putting a "social" part in their app. This is a decorator app. Take a picture. Make the change. When it looks good then go buy the paint. Simple. Developers need to make apps that offer good functionality and value and stop wasting time jumping on the "social" bandwagon. Much of the time it just wastes resources.
