ZTE Geek smartphone unveiled, uses 32nm Intel Atom processor

updated 08:11 am EDT, Wed April 10, 2013

First Clover Trail+ offering from ZTE clocked at 2GHz

ZTE has debuted its first Android smartphone using the Intel 32nm Atom processor platform at the Spring Intel Developer Forum in Beijing. The unfortunately-named ZTE Geek houses the Clover Trail+ processor running at 2GHz, housed inside a device that appears to be inspired by the company's Grand S LTE offering.

On the front is a five-inch HD screen running at 1280x720 with a 1-megapixel camera embedded towards the top left of the display. On the rear is an 8-megapixel camera with LED flash, and inside, the Intel Atom processor is accompanied by 1GB of RAM, 8GB of storage, and a 2300mAh battery. It is claimed that the Clover Trail+ processor is twice as fast as a previous iteration for computing, three times faster for graphical work, with a reduced power consumption.

This isn't the first phone ZTE has produced with Intel providing the processor, as an earlier attempt in the form of the Grand X IN was unveiled last August, which went on sale in Europe shortly afterward.

A price and release date has yet to be confirmed.
