S Pen-enabled tablet loses 3G, 4G access in initial release

The Samsung Galaxy Note 8.0 will go on sale in the United States on April 11th. The eight-inch tablet, bridging the gap between the 5.5-inch Galaxy Note II and the larger Note 10.1, reaches US shores only a few days after it had a limited early release in London, though it does not have any cellular data capability.

The mid-sized tablet has a 1280x800-resolution display, enabled for S Pen input. Using a quad-core 1.6GHz A9 processor with 2GB of RAM and running on Android 4.1, the Galaxy Note 8.0 uses the Wacom-based technology for pressure sensitivity when writing or drawing, and can also accept input from the stylus when it is hovering over the screen. Despite going through FCC testing, the US version will only have Wi-Fi, and not the 3G and 4G-connectivity found in its international versions.

The Galaxy Note 8.0 will go on sale for $400, with a number of accessories, including various adapters and covers, being released at the same time.
