Galaxy Note 8.0 gets pricey London launch

Consumers looking to get their hands on Samsung's Galaxy Note 8.0 early are in luck, so long as they live near London. Samsung announced on Friday that its new mid-size, stylus-toting tablet is now on sale at the Samsung Experience Store at the Westfield Stratford City shopping center in London. The cost: 339 for a Wi-Fi-only, 16GB model.

Revealed in February at Mobile World Congress, the Galaxy Note 8.0 still doesn't have a solid release date or pricing schedule for most of the world's territories. Android Central spotted the announcement of the new tablet at Samsung's flagship London store, noting that it will come with 60-worth of software additions, including a 20 Samsung Learning Hub voucher, a two-month subscription to The Times newspaper, AVG Pro, a month of Samsung Music Hub access, Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit, and Sonic 4: Episode 2. Note 8.0 buyers will also get 50GB of free Dropbox storage for two years.

Electronista went hands-on with the Note 8.0 in Barcelona. We found the device's display to be bright, with wide viewing angles. The device's internals appeared to be more than adequate for running Android 4.1 Jelly Bean, even with Samsung's numerous UI alterations. Overall, we found it to be a suitable alternative to the iPad mini for consumers looking for a mid-size tablet larger than the current 7-inch standard among Android slates.
