Ex-Windows Phone chief joins Amazon for mobile project

Kindel joins book retailer amid Amazon phone rumors

The former General Manager of Windows Phone at Microsoft has joined Amazon. Charlie Kindel, after leaving Microsoft in 2011 in order to concentrate on his own projects, has updated his LinkedIn profile to read "now at Amazon working on something wonderful," with his new project likely to be mobile-related in some way.

A later paragraph showing his experience under Amazon shows him as building a "new team going after a totally new area for Amazon," writes TechCrunch. It also mentions that he is hiring "cloud and mobile developers and testers, program managers, and product managers." Despite the mention of mobile developers and Kindel's history of working on Windows Phone, it is unlikely for Kindel to be working directly on the long-rumored Amazon smartphone.

The timing of the update, April the first, along with the similarity between Kindel's surname and the Amazon Kindle brand led some to query if the new job is an April Fool joke. Kindel later reconfirmed the changes over Twitter.
