Basic tablet receives Google certification, runs Jelly Bean

Low-cost electronics manufacturer Ematic has released its first Google-certified tablet. The Ematic Genesis Prime is a budget-ranged 7-inch tablet that runs on Android 4.1 Jelly Bean and, despite its specifications list and cheap price, it could be viewed as a viable tablet for users just wanting the basics from a mobile device.

Running on a 1.1GHz processor with 1GB of RAM and a dedicated GPU, the Genesis Prime has 4GB of on-board storage supported by 5GB of cloud storage, a front-facing VGA camera, Wi-Fi, and USB 2.0 connectivity. It has a claimed battery life of 4.5 hours, and unlike other cheaply-made Android tablets, the Google certification allows the Genesis Prime to access the Google Play store.

Aimed at the more budget-conscious and people wanting the tablet experience without the expense, Ematic has put the Genesis Prime on sale for $80 through Amazon.
