Choice of 4G, 3G options, includes dedicated camera button

Sony has opened up online pre-orders for the Xperia ZL to customers in the United States, ahead of a retail release. Available in a 4G version with a 3G-only option expected shortly, the Sony smartphone that Electronista tried out at CES in January can be ordered through Sony itself, with an estimated shipping date of the 8th of April.

Powered by a quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 processor running at 1.5GHz with 2GB of RAM, the Xperia ZL houses a 5-inch full HD display, and a 13-megapixel camera with the ability to record HDR video at 1080p and a dedicated camera button. Running on Android 4.1, the Xperia ZL offers one-touch connectivity with other NFC devices for file sharing, while a Battery Stamina Mode promises to improve the battery standby time by shutting down power-hungry apps when the screen is turned off, reactivating them when the display is reactivated.

The Walkman app is preloaded onto the device, providing access to the Music Unlimited library of 18 million tracks as well as locally-stored music, while the Movies app offers over 100,000 movies and TV series through the Video Unlimited service.

The 4G LTE version of the Xperia ZL costs $760, with the 3G-only version selling for $720.
