Hit turn-based tactical game coming to iDevices

Strategy lovers on Apple's iOS platform will be able to try their hands at saving the earth from alien invaders, as 2K Games and Firaxis have announced a full port of XCOM: Enemy Unknown for iPads, iPhones, and iPods. The news came Saturday at PAX East, along with an official date for the Mac port's arrival. XCOM's developers made sure to point out that this will not be a limited port of the top-selling strategy title.

"It is a straight port," XCOM lead designer Jake Solomon told Joystiq. "We have not made any gameplay exceptions. You play the exact same game... it's just now fully playable on an iPhone or an iPad."

XCOM puts players in control of an elite division tasked with defending the earth from an invading alien force. While much of the game revolves around tactical, turn-based action in the field, players also control the minutiae of running the division, making funding and research decisions in between deployments.

XCOM saw very solid reviews upon its release on PC, Xbox 360, and PlayStation 3. The game will arrive on the Mac platform on April 24, and its iOS counterpart is expected to arrive over the summer.

As to pricing, the developers stressed that, since it is the full game, it will have a premium price tag.

"it's going to be priced accordingly for what it is," Solomon said. "It's going to be a premium price point. It is the game. It is the full game."
