Google Play leak shows revised, simplified design choices

updated 08:42 am EDT, Fri March 22, 2013

Google Now-style cards used in app lists

A redesign of the Google Play store is in the works, according to a report. The refined store, said to be version 4.0.16, appears to show a highly-simplified and clean design, complete with larger icons, a design influence at seems to be inspired by Google Now cards, and a lighter-in-appearance home page.

The Holo-themed remake, found by Droid-Life, seems to retain the same layout of pages and search results. An accompanying video showing how the new Play works demonstrates it as having an updated settings section, while the individual app pages for installed apps has changed the "Allow automatic updating" tick-box to one reading "Do not auto-update."

While the image leak and accompanying hands-on video could possibly be faked, it is possible to be a continued work-in-progress, as a number of sections within the app were not shown to be operational. If genuine, it is possible for Google to roll out the redesigned Play store to devices in the coming weeks.
