Barnes and Noble to offer a free Simple Touch reader with Nook HD+ buy

Book seller Barnes and Noble announced today that it will be offering a free Simple Touch e-book reader to purchasers of the Nook HD+ tablet starting next week. The Simple Touch was reduced to $79 after a winter of poor sales, and the move may be an attempt to clear the sales channel of the nearly year-old device. The deal is not yet active on the Barnes and Noble website, which currently boasts a $50 credit with the purchase of the Nook HD+ device.

Luxury San Francisco hotel offers free magazines to patrons on iPad

The Inn at the Presidio has introduced a new guest amenity that allows iPad users to read complimentary issues of popular lifestyle, fashion and special interest magazines while staying at the Inn. The Inn gives guests the free Foli iPad app from the app store, that unlocks the magazines using geofencing technology, allowing unfettered access to the magazines only on the grounds of the hotel. The selection of magazines available for free while at the venue is described as "premium" and includes titles such as Conde Nast Traveler, Bon Appetit, GQ, Vanity Fair, and Wired.
