Apple says Google Now never submitted to App Store

May contradict statement by Google chairman

A Google Now app has yet to be submitted to the App Store, Apple says in a new statement. At this week's Big Tent Summit, Google chairman Eric Schmidt hinted that an app might just be waiting for approval. "You'll need to discuss that with Apple," he remarked. "Apple has a policy of approving or disapproving apps that are submitted into its store, and some of the apps we make they approve, and some of them they don't."

If it's true that no app with Google Now has been submitted to App Store, it raises questions about Schmidt's statements. A leaked video suggested that Now would be built into Google's existing Search app for iOS, though, which could mean that Apple is just being more literal in denying an app review.

    Not a horrible answer.

Non-commital reference to the process, without actually knowing where in the process that Google project is.

The clue is that he "hinted that the app might just be waiting for approval." In other words, "I don't know, but it might..."

Schmidt has a history of lying and trying to lay blame on Apple. This is just another example. "Ask Apple" followed by references to Apple not approving products is a pretty clear implication. When Apple Maps was released, Schmidt acted like it was a complete surprise even though it was demonstrated at WWDC several months earlier. At that time he said no Google Maps replacement was in development, Apple wouldn't approve it anyway, and then 3 months later it was on the app store.
