Samsung drops LG OLED technology lawsuit, claims report

updated 10:22 am EDT, Wed March 20, 2013

OLED lawsuit dropped, settlement details unknown

Samsung is reportedly dropping its lawsuit against LG over the alleged leakage of details relating to Samsung's OLED and LCD technology. Part of an ongoing feud between the two companies, the suit has apparently been laid to rest, after both parties were supposedly in discussions over the matter this month.

The suit stems from Samsung's belief that eleven researchers had provided LG with details about its OLED technology. This then led to Samsung filing an injunction against LG, seeking $880,000 in compensation for each instance where LG used the Samsung OLED intellectual property. After noting 18 confidential technologies for OLED panels that were apparently taken, Samsung alleged to the Seoul Central District Court that LG had actively pursued former Samsung employees in order to gain product knowledge, something that LG denied and claimed would sue later for defamation.

If the discussion reported by the Yonhap News Agency is true, Samsung has dropped the case completely, though details relating to any sort of settlement agreement are currently unknown.

Despite the apparent sudden change in stance to each other, the two companies are still fighting in other areas. Yesterday, LG accused Samsung of infringing an eye-tracking patent with the Galaxy S4, something which Samsung denies and claims to use its own tracking methods. LG will attempt to confirm the infringement upon the S4's release next month.
