Sapphire ships Radeon HD 7950 Mac Edition

Claims framerate boosts as much as 200 percent or more
Component maker Sapphire has officially launched the Mac Edition of its Radeon HD 7950 video card. The add-on includes 3GB of GDDR5 memory, and is said to boost game framerates by as much as 200 percent or more, and general benchmark performance by about 30 percent. Graphics-heavy benchmarks are claimed to run up to 300 percent faster than possible with the NVIDIA GeForce 8800GT.
Some other features of the card include a 3D-capable HDMI port, two Mini DisplayPort connections, and a dual-link DVI port. A switchable BIOS allows the card to run on either a Mac or a PC, although it's designed primarily for the Mac Pro.
The card is not yet listed at Sapphire's website, but Newegg is selling it for $480 before tax and shipping.

Great news
This is great news for all those MacPro owners with perfectly good hardware which has been essentially abandoned by Apple for no reason (except to sell a new machine). I've been struggling with a MacPro 1,1 and a PC Radeon card which supports everything perfectly except a boot-screen. I have to manually swap the card out with an older one when/if I need to access the initial boot-screen. Although I doubt I'll spring for this board at this point (came too late to market to really be of help), it may help others. (Note to Apple, my MacPro 1,1 run Mountain Lion and the full 64-bit versions of Windows 7 with no problems. My solution to you abandoning my hardware, apparently thinking I would purchase a new MacPro, was instead of build a custom Win7 box. Moral? Don't screw-over your faithful customers, it backfires...)
